CLIMATE SMART INITIATIVES

Let  us  take this opportunity to share with you the above initiatives 

In the cause of our community development we have realised the effects climate change in rural households. 

 These have been characterised by unusual prolonged drought, short heavy rains which are destructive, loss of diversity, highest recorded number of death of animals in history.

GOAT BREEDING

This project is a unique opportunity for the community,  it divided into four thematic areas, number is community mobilisations and sensitization on matters of climate change and socio- economic impacts. 

The second step is the enrollment and decision making by the community and the target group.

 The third step is capacity building on goat breeding management. This training course begins by core values training. This helps the target group to go against development hurdles that come along with community development. 

The fourth step is the implementation, monitoring and evaluation. 

The design of the project is increasing goat production while reducing environmental degrading caused by goat farming. 

 Goats are enclosed in a unit where the two can move freely but under zero grazing.

This has resulted to improved incomes by the goat breeders,  improved health by the end users and reduced soil erosion and vegetative destruction. 

ENERGY SAVING JIKOS

The men, women and youth in the community were trained in production and installation of energy saving Jikos.  

The sustainable energy section was therefore formed, the group saved konyango and bought  Jikos production machine. 

However the group is faces the limitations if financial resources to buy the appropriate soil for making the Jikos.  The soil is fetched around Kisumu town. 

TREE NURSERY

Maisha Bora Tree nursery

Another group within Mama Theresa Holistic Centre decided to start a tree nursery that is producing seedlings and selling at subsidised prices to the community. The group produces an average of 500 seedlings per raining session.  Each member has also set up a farm forest of at least one hundred plants. Trees are good as carbon sinks and for rain catchment. Trees also act as wind breakers and prevents soil erosion. 

CLIMATE CHANGE EDUCATION

Members are trained by Alex Omino as Climate change champions. 

The champions use public and church for as means to sensitive the community on climate change.

These and many more are done to help mitigate and adapt to climate change
